Day 9 -- Embassy Date

We spent the morning packing and getting ready for the Embassy appointment. For those that don't know, the Embassy appointment is really the whole reason to go over to Ethiopia. You go to the US Embassy to present your application to "sponsor" and immigrant so they can obtain a Visa. Tax records are needed and they ask you a bunch of questions about if this was the child you expected to receive etc. We were ready by 11:30 but I guess the traffic was bad and they decided to pick up the other families first. There is no set appointment but we got there about 1:15, just after they reopened after lunch.

We sat, and sat, and sat. The other families had two children each and we had Gutu. We were all amazed at how great they behaved. We were of course a bit anxious to see other people come and go and to be the last ones there. Some paperwork issues (wrong birth year on one document & no embassy medical for another child) that were beyond our agency's control were the snag but they hurried things through and we were all finished up by 5 p.m.

It was a big relief to finally be done with this step in the process. We still need the actual Visa tomorrow and we're leaving tomorrow night at 7:45.

Happy Anniversary to us. Eleven years today.
