With the events that transpired this last year (Dad's knees, Dad's heart attack) I decided that I'm going to get into shape. Though my doctor told me last April that I wasn't overweight, (I'm big boned you know) I decided that it's time to start exercising. The options as I saw it were to buy a pair of running shoes and start running around the neighborhood or get a gym membership. I know gym memberships are ridiculous but my problem is that I foresee myself coming home, plopping in my lazy boy, and justifying my way out of getting up and exercising.
So I called Gold's Gym on Friday (my compressed day) and asked them their specials. He had us come down and tour the gym. The gym (formally Xcel) was one of my first projects in 2003 when I started working for Legacy. It was nice to see it complete and full of equipment and people. He went over with us the costs etc. and tried to talk us into signing up right then and there (the special is going to expire today you know). We walked away without signing and I went home to see if there was anything else around. There really isn't much and what there it's for women or is really, really expensive.
I returned to Gold's and ran into a guy from our ward and asked him to give me the dirt on the club. He said he's been working out there for a while even though he has a full weight set at home (the whole motivation thing). He said I should ask about paying in full upfront because of the discounts. So I took his advice and asked the membership "dude" to tell me about it. As we were discussing the manager came up and asked, "What will it take for me to get you to pay in full right now?" I told him I hadn't given it much thought and then he took $200 off the price plus added 15 months to my contract. I figured once you sign even a 24 month contract, you're sucked into it whether you want to or not. So in the end we got about a 50% discount and 15 months on top. Not too shabby.
I went yesterday afternoon and jumped on the elliptical trainer. I spent about 30 minutes on it and decided that I had just about enough. I hobbled down the stairs and out to the car. Today I'm feeling every tiny muscle in my leg. It'll be worth it right? Keep saying it...

Are you saying legacy did the royal pearl in the bathrooms and the reception desk?
It's actually blue pearl. Look closer next time...
My family was here over Christmas and my dad saw your family picture on the fridge. He said, "Kelly got fat. He looks like his dad." So maybe it is time for the gym. Who are the Osborns to talk though, right?
Keep it up and then you can run the logan marathon round 2 with me. I know, sounds exciting. By the way, your neighbors inspired me and I am training for a sprint triathlon. I now smell chlorine everywhere I go. Despite all the calorie burning I am still fat. I guess it would help to keep my food intake equal or less than before rather than trying to justify and increase...
